Here is a simple biped rig for Blender 2.55. The model itself was from Make Human I simply cut him up, and rigged him. I tried to make this rig fairly simple. It uses IK legs, and FK for the arms. I made the hand very easy to control. simply select the ring on the finger you want to curl, and rotate.
You can select multiple fingers at once to easily form a fist. The foot is about as complicated as it gets, but it’s still very easy to use. To stand on the toes, select and rotate the long rectangle above the foot.
To roll forward on the toes, select the smaller rectangle near the end of the foot and rotate.
The rest of the controls are pretty self explanatory.
Here is a quick animation test I did for a zombie video game I’m working on.
Play around with him, and make something cool. Post links to your animations, I want to see what you guys come up with!

Included on layer 1 is an uncut version of the model. Feel free to skin him if you don’t want to solely use the proxy.

could you plz do a tut about walking using a path or some technique , sens the blender 2.49 the stride bone has despaired and I didn’t find a good way to make my character walk cycle goes smother in the scenes on blender alpha version
Walk cycles are only good for video games. If you want to have a character walk in a scene, it’s better to actually animate each step. This way it doesn’t look too static and boring. It also allows for realistic turning, tripping, stairs… as well as doing other things with the body, such as looking around, or waving to someone. It sounds like a lot of work, but it’s really not that bad. I was thinking about doing a tutorial on walking through a scene.
Thanks, really nice character. Can I add clothes to this character and if I do can it stay on the character? your character is nice but it is very hard to animate.
Hi
Found your website very interesting and useful. Going to work with your character a bit as I learn how to animate and rig. I was writing in the visual basic language , but I have got the bender bug now. My family is all artists of one type or another . I plan on learning the software in stages and I think that animation and rigging is a good place to start. I am almost home bound , disabled , and this computer is all I have to keep me from going insane. Thank You. Lyndon
Thank you. I know what you mean, the Blender bug bites pretty hard! haha. If you want to get more into animation, I would recommended “The Animators Survival Kit”, by Richard Williams It’s a great book that goes over all the basics, as well as some advanced stuff regareding animation. It’s less about the technical aspects, and more about the art side of animation. Also, check out http://www.11secondclub.com/ Every month they have a sound clip to animate to. there’s some really good entries! try doing one, and posting online for feedback to get better!
